Numerous attractions are available to guests in addition to hiking, biking, horseback riding, Squam Lake Tours and visits to nearby shops and galleries. A favorite trip is a drive up I-93 where you can stop at The Flume, a natural chasm with hiking trails. The Aerial Tram at Cannon Mountain, just through Franconia Notch, offers a ride to the top of the mountain. Cannon is also home to the New Hampshire Ski Museum. Lost River Gorge in North Woodstock is a fascinating tour of the remnants from the glacier age, as are the Polar Caves in Plymouth.
The annual New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair takes place the first week in August. It’s the oldest crafts fair in the country and is a wonderful day’s excursion. Wolfeboro has an Artists in the Park celebration in mid-August and Meredith hosts a large juried event, the Lakes Region Fine Arts and Crafts Festival in late August. A visit to Pepi Herrmann's Studio in Gilford, featuring world-class hand-cut crystal, is not to be missed.
The Silver Arts Center in Plymouth offers outstanding concerts with guest artists and the Meadowbrook Musical Arts Center in Gilford has a summer schedule of top artists in the country. The Winnipesaukee Playhouse is a year-round theatre company
You can take a sail from The Weirs on the Queen of Winnipesaukee or catch an early morning mail boat and tour the lake. And don’t forget the M/S Mt. Washington for lake cruises. There’s also an Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show on Lake Winnipesaukee the last weekend in July.
New Hampshire International Speedway has two NASCAR races (July and September) as well as an Indy car race, In mid-June bikers gear up for Laconia Motorcycle Bike Week, one of the largest motorcycle events in the East.
Several museums can be found in the area including the Wright Museum (World War II), the Libby Museum (one man’s eclectic collection), and the New Hampshire Boat Museum (antique/classic watercraft) all in Wolfeboro.
Castle In The Clouds in Moultonborough is literally a beautiful castle set on almost 6,000 acres and now home to Castle Springs Bottling Company.
Canterbury Shaker Village is a beautifully restored historic Shaker site offering many weekend events and tours throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons.
If golf is on the docket do play a round at the Owl's Nest Golf Course in Campton. It is listed as one of the 100 Must Play Golf Courses in New England and the views alone are worth the trip. Another premier and challenging golf course is Canterbury Woods Country Club.
